About Forró:
Forró is a music style and partner dance originated in the Northeast of Brazil that has spread to all over Europe, with over 60 festivals the Forró community is well-established and further expanding. Forró is much more than just a close dance, it is about creative expression and interpersonal communication.
In the UK, you can already find Forró classes and social evenings in London, Brighton, Cambridge, Oxford, Reading, Manchester, Birmingham, York and Bristol. Join us now in Swindon and spread the joy of Forró.
The music:
Forró music traditionally consists of three instruments: the accordion (sanfona), the drum or zabumba and the triangle. The songs include rhythms such as Baião, Xaxado, Arrasta Pé, Xote.
The dance:
Forró is a partner dance where couples dance closely together. Traditionally the dance would be danced without many variations. However, in the early 2000's the dance spread in the universities of Brazil and since then influences and movements are continuously introduced.
Join us from 7.30pm for the dance class followed by social evening, drinks and practice.
Schedule:
up to 30 min basic steps introduction for beginners. (£ Free)
1 hr Improvers / Intermediate. (£ 4.oo donation)
+ Practice / Social Dancing. (£ Free)
The donation will go towards promoting Forró and bringing amazing teachers and musicians to Swindon.
